Product Description
The Milesight VS330 is a LoRaWAN bathroom occupancy sensor providing a cost-effective solution for monitoring the occupancy status of bathrooms and cubicles.
To optimise accuracy and efficiency, the Milesight VS330 adopts dual PIR and ToF technology to detect space occupancy in individual cubicles. By combining PIR (Passive Infrared) to detect human motion with ToF (Time of Flight) to measure the precise distance from objects, the VS330 ensures highly reliable detection results whilst maintaining 100% anonymity.
Milesight has developed a smart trigger logic for the VS330. The initial PIR detection combined with ToF reconfirmation enables the sensor to accurately monitor occupancy status without "false positives" caused by inanimate objects. An embedded self-calibration algorithm further elevates the accuracy to an industry-leading level of over 99.5%.
The device is fully GDPR compliant. Whilst PIR detects infrared radiation from humans, the ToF sensor simply measures the time it takes for a light wave to travel to an object and back. No cameras or microphones are used, ensuring no personal information is involved in the process.
In high-traffic but low-capacity applications, it is crucial to update occupancy status immediately for better facility management. When a user enters or leaves a cubicle, the PIR sensor triggers the system, followed by ToF data collection at 5-second intervals. This enables prompt, real-time updates on cubicle availability.
High accuracy does not necessitate high power consumption. The VS330 utilises sophisticated trigger logic to manage the dual sensors, improving power efficiency and guaranteeing a minimum of 4 years of battery life under standard usage conditions.

By monitoring bathroom usage, facility managers can move from rigid cleaning schedules to demand-based cleaning, improving hygiene and reducing labour costs. Furthermore, real-time data can be pushed to external displays to guide users to the nearest available cubicle, significantly improving the user experience.
Gateway and Network Server
As a LoRaWAN-based device, the VS330 requires a LoRaWAN Gateway (such as the Milesight UG65) to backhaul data to a Network Server. Once connected to a network server or IoT platform, the data can be visualised on dashboards or integrated into existing building management systems (BMS) for automated reporting and alerts.
